Despite having sold images on canvas in the past, it is only in the last 6 months or so that I’ve started to put canvas prints up on my own walls. In the past I’ve always bought frames on the basis that I wanted the option to change the images every so often and it would be cheaper to replace a print than a canvas. That said, since I got my first canvas a year ago I’ve fallen in love with the media!
This morning I took delivery of a 75cm x 50cm (30″ x 20″) canvas print of the Boston Skyline at Sunset and I was blown away by the vibrancy of the image. When I originally got back from this trip to Boston I had this image printed on normal glossy paper, frame and put it up on my lounge wall. I used a different print company to my usual one and wasn’t hugely impressed as it seemed to have a brown / tungsten cast and the paper was quite thin. The canvas on the other hand brought this image to life and shows the full tonal range of the sun set right up to the blue sky. The canvas made the original print I had done love positively dull!
The canvas is now pride and place on my lounge wall, as pictured, and adds a nice focal point and a nice splash of colour. I also like to think that it’s a good endorsement of the products sold on this site that I have them on my own wall. Now all I have to do is resist the temptation to replace every image in the house with a canvas!
